Did you know that the very substances we often use to keep our space clean can be the most toxic ones to be around? Wondering what you can do about it?
Today, we’ll be sharing five of the most commonly used and most toxic household chemicals, according to Dr. Erica, one of our integrative, holistic medicine doctors who helps craft our shots. Take a step toward a healthier environment by ditching the following items.
- Pesticides. Try using a more eco-friendly DIY pest control by mixing one teaspoon of a spice of your choice, like cinnamon, pepper, paprika, or turmeric, with one cup of water. Put it in a bottle and spray away!
- Fabric softeners. Instead, try using a mixture of baking soda and vinegar. If you’d like to make your solution scented, add a few drops of essential oil.
- Air fresheners. Do your best to keep your space clean and aired out. Open windows, keep air circulating. Again, if you’d like a scent, diffusing essential oils or adding a few drops to a water spray bottle is a great solution.
- Mothballs. Keep any at-risk clothes washed and stored in plastic containers. Dried lavender, lavender oil, or citronella are healthier repellents.
Many frequently-used cleaning supplies are harmful and can be substituted for a DIY version that gets the job done just as well. You may be surprised by what seemingly-harmless chemicals most of us use on a daily basis and how simple it is to swap them out for healthier options!
By avoiding these 5 household chemicals, you are creating a safer environment for yourself and your family. Clean green and stay clear of toxic chemicals!
